Plage Gramaglia Beach, Cap d'Ail

Rocky cove suited to strong swimmers - ladder access to the sea

Located just beneath Restaurant La Pinede along the Sentier Littoral, Plage Gramaglia is more a series of rocky coves than a traditional beach.

The views are stunning in all directions and there is a very pleasant Sentier Littoral footpath that runs all along the seafront, linking Gramaglia to its two neighbouring beaches - Marquet and Mala.

It can be a good idea to take a picnic, as well as all the big flat rocks that you can sprawl yourself out on there is also a designated picnic area; it's shaded with plenty of tables and litter bins, not to mention the fabulous view of the bay. There are toilets and showers nearby.

Setting & Location

The jagged coastline is made up of volcanic rock and Jurassic boulders that fell from the cliffs many years ago; its dramatic origins are echoed in the crashing waves that smash against them when the tide is high. The beach is overlooked by grandiose villas and fringed with lush Mediterranean vegetation, there are information boards along the way to help you identify the various plants and flowers (in French).

Water Safety & Clarity

There are plenty of points to enter the water with stairways and ladders leading you across the rocks but be aware that this area is unsupervised by lifeguards and the sea can get very choppy - we would only recommend this area to confident swimmers. Rubber swim shoes are also a good idea as it can be rough underfoot.

Watersports Nearby

Perfect for strong swimmer who are looking to do a few 'laps' of the area and for those who enjoy a leisurely stroll.

Directions

Gramaglia is super easy to access, just follow the signs for La Pinede from Cap d’Ail train station and it's only a few minutes on foot.
