A pebble beach with watersports, ideal for families
Right beside the marina, Plage de la Batterie (also known as Plage Villeneuve-Loubet) is a pleasant pebble beach with plenty of activities on offer.
If you're looking for a good seafood restaurant then there is a selection at the port that smell very tantalising. Showers and toilets are dotted along the beach and there are plenty of places to buy snacks and drinks.
Plage de la Batterie is tucked in between the marina and Plage des Bouches du Loup; there is a long pedestrian footpath that connects them so you walk from one to the next without leaving the seaside.
The water is very clean and has been awarded the Blue Flag award, as have all the beaches in Villeneuve-Loubet. There is a lifeguard on duty here in peak season.
The beach is pebbles, like most on the Riviera, so rubber shoes are a good idea to protect your feet when wading into the sea.
As well as the usual swimming and sunbathing you can also hire jet-skis, kayaks and other water sports equipment from the Plage des Marines hut on the beach. If you’ve ever seen folks in parachutes being pulled along by speed boats and thought it looks like fun, then now’s your time to try it. There’s also a yacht club at the marina where you can take sailing lessons or book a boat trip.
The Plage des Kids is a big hit with children - if they get bored of building sandcastles they can go jump on trampolines for a bit or be fired into the air on a reverse bungee. You’ll find it at the end of the beach near the marina in the car park.
Access to Plage de la Batterie is easiest via the 200 bus from Nice, or you can cycle all the way there along the green cycle path that starts at the Promenade des Anglais.
