La Colombe D'Or Hotel, St Paul de Vence
Charming boutique hotel with a world-class art collection and rich artistic history
This celebrated Provençal inn combines elegant accommodation with a private collection of modern art by renowned 20th-century artists.
Originally a lively café bar known as “Chez Robinson” in the 1920s, this unique hotel quickly became a favourite among local artists. Owner Paul Roux transformed it into the Colombe d’Or, a three-room inn that welcomed painters who often exchanged their work for a stay or a meal.
Today, the hotel features 13 rooms and 12 suites, with an ever-growing collection of artworks woven into its character. Highlights include a ceramic mural by Fernand Léger on the terrace and a striking installation by Irish artist Sean Scully by the pool. A stay here offers not just comfort, but a true immersion into living art history.
