We're halfway through the summer and the holiday season is fully underway, which means that plenty of events are organised across in and around Nice. Here are our top picks for August.
The month kicks off with the wonderful bi-annual Soirees Renaissance in the nearby village of Villenueve Loubet. A fantastic historical reconstruction that spills over from the castle of Villenueve-Loubet into the streets of the village. Expect authentic costumes, music, dancing and of course a good solid display of armoury and battle techniques. The historical reconstruction depicts the arrival of François Ist in 1538 and offers royal processions, a big stage show and a renaissance market. Great family entertainment!
Sticking with history and adding a splash a music Les Concerts du Cloitre are hosted at the Monastere de Cimiez in the north of Nice. Each summer the cloister provides a beautiful seeing for twenty concerts: recitals, chamber music and orchestral enjoyment.
Add a touch of dance to your evening music and you have the Nice Tango Festival. Imagine Buenos Aires but with a sea breeze and the beautiful backdrop of the Mediterranean city of Nice... Dancers and DJs from across the country and further afield will come together with tango enthusiasts to showcase a flamboyant dancing style. Make sure you join in!
From South America to Ireland, the dancing continues in Nice with the Celtic Legends. The oopen air concert takes place in the Theatre de Verdure, celebrating Irish dancing and the traditions of Irish culture. Born in the fascinating plains of Connemara, Celtic Legends is a distillation of traditional Irish culture.
Imagine enjoying a long summer night listening to the chilled sounds of jazz music in a beautiful chateau setting. If this sounds like your kind of thing then don't miss Jazz au Chateau in Cagnes sur Mer. Gather at Place Grimaldi every Friday to enjoy a wonderful evening of live music in an unforgettable venue. Various concerts ranging from jazz trios to vocalists to gypsy swing bands will be lighting up the night at the chateau in Haut-de-Cagnes. Always popular, with a great ambience.
