Segway Tour of Nice

See the sights of Nice with an eco friendly Segway

We sampled a tour of Nice on a pair of Segway's and loved it, the perfect whistle-stop way to see the city sights and have fun on your feet.

The local Nice Segway guides offer a range of tours from a simple taster session of just 30 minutes through to a full half day escapade from Nice to Villefranche Sur Mer. Our tour clocked in a just over an hour which gave us time to get accustomed to the somewhat passé futuristic toys and explore some of the essential sights of Nice.

Starting on the Promenade des Anglais, we had ample room to get to grips with the controls of these two wheeled wonders. Equipped with helmets and an English speaking guide, the Segways have self balancing systems and speed limiters so in all you are very safe. We soon grasped the basics; start, stop and spin around on the spot. At this point we headed along the Promenade des Anglais in search of the sights of Nice, with a few funny looks along the way.

The Segway tour took us up into the Cours Saleya, the open-air market square filled with fragrant flowers and fresh local foods. Gliding onwards we made short work of climbing the narrow streets of the old town and arrived in Place Rosetti, a lively old square home to plenty of cafes. Without tired limbs there was no need for a coffee stop, so we ventured forth to see Place St-Francois and Place Massena where the daily fish market is held. Then the home straight was along the Jardin Albert 1er, a contemporary green park filled with palms trees, flowers and water features before returning to the Promenade des Anglais.

Highly recommended for both the novel experience of gliding effortlessly through the streets but also as a great way to see the sights of Nice.
