The spectacular event proved as popular as ever

Less that a year after the horrific events of the terror attack in Nice on 14th July 2016, the world famous Nice Carnival has proved that it can attract just as many tourists to the French Riviera as ever before.

With economic benefits projected to reach €30 million, the same as 2016, organisers said that the stands were as busy as ever during the final passage of the Roi de l'Energie on Saturday 25th February 2017.

"We were on a drop in reservations of around 30%. The startup was complicated in terms of attendance. But the stands were then filled on the last days," says the deputy mayor. "We even managed to finish the festivities with more audience than in the previous edition."

The final statistics for the 133rd Nice Carnival will not be known for a few days, but tourism professionals are already positive. "Attendance, especially in the two- and three-star establishments and especially at the weekends, was good," notes Denis Cipollini, president of the hoteliers Nice Côte d'Azur.

Regardless of the official figures, I think we can rest assured that the Nice Carnival will continue to grow from strength to strength. If you missed the real thing then check out the video above of the best bits from the second week of the festivities.
