After the terror attacks in Paris on 13th November the government declared a 'state of emergency' which included banning public gatherings for a set period and tighter security measures at public events.

The 'state of emergency' has since been extended until 26th February 2016. As one of the biggest and most attended annual events on the Cote d'Azur, the Nice Carnival is classified as a "Large Gathering" and so has very strict security measures in place. Hosted annually in February it is due to take place in 2016 from Friday 12th to Sunday 28th February.

This year, these security measures will be enhanced to allow an optimal control of the whole perimeter of the event and the city, and insure the complete safety of these festivities.

The opening and closing festivities are free for everyone, and then each subsequent parade requires a ticket for the grandstands or the promenade. The Carnival starts at the beginning of Lent and lasts for 15 days.
