Friday, July 27th 2018 sees a total lunar eclipse at approximately 21:29 Paris time.

Also known as a blood moon for the red/orange hue given to the moon's surface, this will be the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century, lasting approximately 103 minutes, with a partial eclipse lasting until around 00:20. Many public observation points have already been organised throughout France, and the Association Française d'Astronomie have many events planned around the country.

Unlike their solar counterparts, lunar eclipses are safe to watch with the naked eye, and even better with binoculars or a telescope. For the best viewing points, check out this map from the French astronomy society here. To know more about the specific schedule and phases of the eclipse, click here.
