Strikes Have Affected Airports in Nice

Flight cancellations continued to rise over the weekend

As we reported at the start of September the planned strikes by Air France pilots, due to disputes and discussions about the Air France-KLM reform, were going to have a significant affect on domestic flights.

This weekend that strike came to a head and many domestic airports were affected. Flight cancellation rates continued to climb: a huge 89% of flights in Nice on Saturday were cancelled, plus an astronomical 97% in Marseille. In Bordeaux and Lille, no flights was scheduled for Sunday (yesterday) at all.

These cancellations have affected many people over the last week and at the moment it looks like Air France will begin to loose customers as travellers would rather go elsewhere than face the uncertainty and inconvenience of travelling with Air France. All of this goes directly against what Air France-KLM are trying to do, as they try to expand their fleet in order to complete with budget airlines such as Easyjet.

Although the strike is due to end today Air France travellers to Nice are advised to check with airline and airport prior to travel.
