This weekend was one of the busiest as many holiday makers took to the roads to make their way to their favourite holiday destinations across the country.

The French road monitor Bison Fute warned of heavy traffic conditions in and around major towns and cities from Friday afternoon as several hundred thousand extra motorists were expected on the regions roads with many arriving for the start of holidays and others leaving at the end of them.

The A8 between Aix and Italy was busy in both directions with the area around Nice being particularly bad. Saturday saw major delays around Aix en Provence and through until Sunday the traffic continued to be heavy especially around Aix and Nice.

I am sure this won't be the end of the traffic jams as the peage (toll booth) stations create tail backs along the major routes. Advice is to travel during the week if possible and to avoid peak times. Planning ahead could save you spending a lot of time in traffic queues this summer. But it wouldn't be a summer holiday without a traffic jam now would it?
