Let romance bloom; our guide to romantic hot-spots in Nice

featured in News & reviews Author Pam Williamson, Nice Editor Updated

Sunshine, a mild climate, French food and wine: could there be a better place for romance than the French Riviera? Nice, with the narrow streets of her old town, long seafront promenade and gastronomic delights, has plenty of scope for a romantic getaway, even in the winter month of February.

Whether you’re looking for somewhere for date night, the perfect romantic sunset stroll, or even the magical venue to pop the question...

A romantic hotel

The Suisse Hotel offers uninterrupted sea views over the glorious Bay of Angels. A luxury boutique hotel with right in the heart of the city...what more could you need for a romantic weekend on the Cote d'Azur. For a touch of old-school glamour on the Riviera then you will be spoiled at the Westminster Hotel & Spa. This chic hotel has a belle epoque design and is situated on the Promenade des Anglais overlooking the Mediterranean and offers a special package for couples...heaven.

A romantic bar

The Bar du Relais in the iconic Hotel Negresco has just the right the dimly-lit, glamorous ambience required for a special date night—whether it’s the first or the hundredth. Built in 1912, overlooking the famous Baie des Anges, and classified a National Historic Monument in 1974, the 5-star Hotel Le Negresco in Nice is one of the few remaining private palaces still existing in the world. Where better to soak up the history and glamour than in the heart of this Old Dame.

A romantic restaurant (or two)

In the centre of Nice, we’d recommend L'Aromate Restaurant for a cosy atmosphere and that very special occasion. Chef Mickaël Gracieux was awarded a Michelin star in 2010 after only 2 years of work in his new venture, this is a place not to be missed if you are a 'foodie'! Another local treat is the lovely Jan Restaurant, which delivers Michelin-starred gastronomy in old Port area of Nice. A romantic walk

For a short leisurely hike take the coastal path near Coco beach- you’ll get magical views along the rugged coastline in a part of Nice that is saturated in history. If you prefer to remain in the city for your romantic stroll then there can be nowhere better than the Promenade du Paillon, an urban oasis in the heart of the city, just a few minutes away from the iconic Promenade des Anglais.

A romantic spa-day

The spa at the Hotel Splendid in the musicians quarter of Nice, offers several treatment rooms as well as a day spa area with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Perfect for a relaxing break with your partner. Just along the coast in the town of Villeneuve-Loubet, the Thalas Soleil & Spa is dedicated to health and well-being and offers a 'You and I' package. Spend a half day with your loved one and enjoy a couples massage, chocolate body wrap and all the essential oils you can imagine.

Romantic Activity

If you both love French food, why not make a great memory with a cooking class together? Spend the day with a Michelin starred chef or join one of the cookery courses in the hinterland of Nice. Other romantic activities might be to make a perfume for each other at one of Grasse’s famous parfumeries, visit a nearby vineyard for cellar door tastings, or take an overnight trip to the absolutely magnificent lavender fields of Provence. The options are endless!
