Born in Nice 24 years ago and hailing from the town of Cagnes-sur-Mer, near Nice, Loïc Bruni has once more risen to the top of downhill mountain biking. On Sunday, he achieved the title of world champion in Switzerland at the Elite Men Downhill event for the third time.

After winning the Junior World Championship in 2012, the Cagnes-sur-Mer rider went on to triumph at the UCI MTB World Championships in 2015, 2017 and 2018. Coming out ahead of the Belgian Martin Maes and the Brit Danny Hart, Bruni has become one of the top four downhill bikers in number of titles.

Another local rider, Loris Vergier, almost made it to the podium reaching the 4th place, showing how Nice is a hotspot for mountain biking. If you too want to follow on the steps of these superstar riders, take a look at some of the best mountain biking routes in the area.
