Nice celebrated its first Ironman 70.3 race last Sunday. A gruelling endurance test with a 1900m swim, 90km cycle route and a final 21km run.

One of the most beautiful races in the world, athletes chose Nice as the sixth Best Race Venue in 2017, as well as the seventh among the Overall Bike Races. Comprising a swim in the azure Mediterranean waters, a cycling route through the southern Alps and a run along the city's historic Promenade des Anglais, we're not surprised.

This year, 2400 athletes took part in the race. Rudy Von Berg, from the US, won the challenge at 04:09:50, arriving before the Belgian Fred Van Lierde (04:15:24) and the Italian Giulio Molinari (04:16:06). Manon Genet, from France, was the first female to cross the finish line at 04:46:29 followed by the Swiss Nina Derron (04:50:12) and the french Joh Daumas Carrier (04:53:48).

Next year's edition will take place on September 7th, 2019 and it will be home to the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.
